Bucovina is one of the most beautiful historic regions in the North of Romania, having 11 cities of the country (Campulung Moldovenesc, Gura Humorului, Suceava, Vatra Dornei, Vicovu de Sus, Cajvana, Frasin, Radauti, Siret, Solca and Milisauti) and 7 cities from the Ukraine. Bucovina is well-known for the beauty of its landscapes, for the multitude of picturesque villages, for the chain of monasteries and churches known all over the land in Romania and for the craftsmen carrying on the tradition and giving birth to some absolutely gorgeous objects: ceramic vases, traditional fabrics, painted eggs, wooden sculptures etc.

Bucovina

If you choose to visit Bucovina, you should start with the city of Suceava, the largest city of Bucovina. Thus, you will discover beauty, tradition, variety, history, religion, spirituality and a real explosion of modernism. Among the most popular objectives we count: The Monastery of Saint John the Younger, the Citadel of the Throne of Suceava, Hanul Domnesc (King’s Inn), the Museum of the Bucovina Village, King’s Court, the Gah Synagogue and Mirauti Church. Very close to the city there is one of the most picturesque villages in Romania, Ciocanesti.

From Suceava, the ride should take you to Gura Humorului, a small yet pretty town, located at the road crossing going to the medieval monasteries of Bucovina. At Gura Humorului you must visit Voronet Monastery, already well-known for its Voronet blue. Gura Humorului also gives you a starting point to the most interesting tourist and mountain routes in Bucovina, as well as the joy to practice sports that pump up your adrenaline to the max: paragliding, river rafting, off-road, mountain-bike.

 

Bucovina

If you come to Bucovina, you must not miss Vatra Dornei, a tourist locality very much sought-after for its thermal waters, landscapes, climate and skiing facilities. Vatra Dornei is an important balneary resort, surrounded by a series of forested mountains where rock climbing and winter sports are practiced. The natural park in the centre of the resort known for its squirrels, as well as the casino remind of the famous balneary resorts in Western Europe. In the city, among the most interesting tourist attractions we have the two museums open to the visiting public: The Natural Sciences and Hunting Museum, respectively the Ethnography Museum hosted by the City Hall building.

Bucovina

Cacica is another place in Bucovina that is worth visiting. Cacica locality was attested, based on the archaeological discoveries, as one of the oldest recrystallized salt mines in Europa, dating back to the Cris culture of the early Neolithic (5th millennium B.C.). besides the possibility of admiring natural landscapes whose beauty cannot be contested, at Cacica you could also visit other representative tourist attractions of the area. One of the most important and visited localities is undoubtedly the Cacica Salt Mine, unique by its galleries carved by hand, without any machinery. Another well-known tourist objective is the Roman-Catholic Church at Cacica, also known as Basilica Minor, built in 1904.

Not last, Bucovina area is known for the multitude of folk craftsmen trying to carry on the Romanian traditions and crafts. There, you could meet craftsmen sculpturing in wood, painting eggs in different techniques, working the clay to give birth to wonderful ceramic vases, or hand weaving or using the loom, creating wonderful folk suits.
