Our driver welcomes at the airport and transfers to your 4* hotel in the center of Bucharest. The adventure will begin with a panoramic tour of the city: the Free Press Square, the Arch of Triumph, the Victory Square, the Victory Avenue, the Royal Palace, the Revolution Square and the Palace of Parliament, all the sights will be seen and explained on the way. In the evening prepare for a special welcome dinner at a traditional Romanian restaurant.
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning you will visit the Parliament Palace, the world’s largest, heaviest and most expensive administrative building, an unmistakable communist legacy located right in the heart of the city. Afterwards, you can enjoy free time in the Old Town and have lunch in one of the many restaurants spreading around cobblestone streets. Next, you will depart to Cozia Monastery, the oldest and most complex historical monument in Romania. The day finishes in the medieval city of Sibiu, which is to be explored the following day.
After breakfast, the guide will walk you around Sibiu revealing its’ history and legends. The city has the power to fascinate and take you back in time, it was even ranked Europe’s 8th most idyllic place to live by Forbes magazine. Around noon, you will travel to Turda Salt Mine, one of the oldest in the world, nowadays serving as an underground amusement park with healing effects and attracting tourists from the whole world. Your trip to continues to historical capital of Transylvania, Cluj-Napoca. The city offers an amazing experience for those who wish to discover the best of the urban Transylvanian atmosphere. Cluj has it all: excellent cultural and artistic activities, great food, a wonderful historical legacy, and a great atmosphere. Overnight at a 4* hotel in Cluj-Napoca.
The day begins with a drive to the scenic region of Maramures. You will have a chance to visit magnificent sights, all part of UNESCO World Heritage: the astonishing wooden churches in Surdesti and Barsana monasteries. The most distinctive highlight is Merry Cemetery in Sapanta where traditional folk art makes fun of death using bright colours and witty stories. You will spend the night at a pension designed as traditional Romanian peasant house.
On this day you will continue exploring Romanian culture and traditions. You will visit a few villages, savour traditional homemade food and meet the local people so as to feel completely immersed in the lifestyle of the Maramures region. Overnight at the same pension as the previous night.
Breakfast. Today our guide will take you to Mocanita on the most amazing steam train ride, the last remaining functional forestry train in Europe and the only means of transport into the heart of Maramures Mountains, a protected area of wild and unaltered beauty. After lunch, you will travel to the region of Bucovina and stop in Gura Humorului for dinner and accommodation.
The itinerary for this day is full with captivating sights, part of UNESCO Heritage. You will visit three of the most spectacular Painted Churches where one can admire beautiful frescoes in lively preserved colours: Moldovita, Sucevita, and Voronet, widely known throughout Europe as “the Sistine Chapel of the East” and famous for the intense shade of blue used in frescoes. Overnight and dinner at Gura Humorului.
The day starts with breakfast and continues with one of Romania’s most spectacular road cutting through 300-meter high rocks as it crosses the mountains to Transylvania - Bicaz Gorge. While taking lunch you will marvel at the Red Lake, a natural barrier lake created in 1837 by flooding the area. Next, you will be driven to Sighisoara, one of the most beautiful and best-preserved medieval towns in Europe, the birthplace of Vlad Dracula and part of UNESCO World Heritage. You have arrived in the mysterious Transylvania! Accommodation in Sighisoara.
In the morning you will meet the guide for a walking tour of Sighisoara, one of the most remarkable medieval towns in Europe with a stunning architectural and historical past. The adventure continues to Viscri village, a place of unspoiled beauty and serenity that fascinated Prince of Wales so deeply that he bought and restored a house here. You will have lunch in the fairytale-like Viscri area and then travel to Brasov, the second most visited city in Romania. Overnight in Brasov.
After breakfast, you will go on a walking tour of Brasov to discover hundreds of years of history and culture. The tour will include the most important attractions: the Council Square, the Black Church, the White Tower, the Rope Street, the Clock Tower, the Defense Walls of the Old Town, Saint Nicholas Church. After the tour, you can enjoy free time. Accommodation at the same hotel as the previous night.
13th-century hilltop fortress known as the Dracula’s Castle. You will find out the real story of Vlad The Impaler and legends that made him Count Dracula. Driving through the picturesque landscapes on the way to Bucharest, we will stop in Sinaia, a resort town nestled at the foothills of Bucegi Mountains. The first king of Romania was so delighted by the area that decided to establish his summer residence here, “Peles Castle”. Designed in a Germanic neo-renaissance style, it is listed among the most stunning castles in Europe. Return to Bucharest.
Depending on your flight schedule, on the last day, you can enjoy some free time in Bucharest. Afterward, you will be driven to the airport, recollecting a great time discovering Romania.
