Trip details

Village Museum is one of Bucharest’s most impressive attractions and is, surely, a must-see when in the city. It is the ideal place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and is suitable for solo travellers and families with children alike.

The open-air ethnographic museum stretches for 15 hectares along the shore of Lake Herastrau. Here you can see around 300 hundred traditional peasant houses and outbuildings, dating from the 17th to the 20th centuries.
There are houses, wooden churches, windmills, wells, wayside crosses, and numerous items of folk arts, brought from different regions of Romania.
72 structures of the Village Museum are declared historical monuments. None are copies of originals; all have been acquired from peasants, dismantled piece by piece and transported to Bucharest.

To help you immerse in the peasant life atmosphere, our guide will provide detailed explanations of all the objects and picture a day-to-day activity of a villager.

At the end of the tour, you can also purchase authentic Romanian souvenirs at a local shop.
